After Kangana’s spat with reporter, Ekta Kapoor apologises, says ‘don’t let incident harm film’

Entertainment Journalists' Guild of India had earlier written to Kapoor, saying if Kangana Ranaut did not apologise, she would not get media coverage.

New Delhi: Ekta Kapoor, producer of the Kangana Ranaut starrer JudgeMentall Hai Kya, has issued an apology on her Twitter account after the actor got into an argument with a reporter at a promotional event of the film.

The Managing Director of Balaji Telefilms took to the microblogging site and posted an apology to journalists, urging them to not let this incident affect the film.

In her statement, Kapoor stated that the producers would like to apologise and express regret for the untoward incident. “The intention was not to disrespect or hurt anyone’s sentiments,” the statement said.

On July 7, during a song launch event of the movie, Ranaut misbehaved with a reporter, accusing him of running a ‘smear campaign’ against her. While the actor kept coming up with bizarre accusations, the journalist stood his ground politely.

“You were bashing Manikarnika. Have I done anything wrong by making a film on nationalism? You called me a jingoistic woman who is making a film on nationalism,” Ranaut told the journalist at the event.

Post this, Entertainment Journalists’ Guild of India warned Kapoor in a letter that if Ranaut does not apologise for her behaviour, the journalists will boycott media coverage for her.

“We, as a guild, have collectively decided to boycott Ms Ranaut and not give her any media coverage. The boycott will not affect the film or the rest of the cast, which includes actor Rajkummar Rao,” the letter said.

Ranaut’s sister, Rangoli Chandel, had reacted to the news of the boycott by saying the actor will ‘never apologise’ and vowing vengeance.
