AAP, BJP legislators clash at DERC meeting, AAP claims ‘abuses hurled at women MLAs’

Both sides accused each other of manhandling and misbehavior.

New Delhi: The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) meeting turned into a battleground on July 9, after clashes erupted between Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs and AAP rebels.

Both sides accused each other of manhandling and misbehavior, with AAP accusing BJP MLA and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Vijendra Gupta of snatching documents from AAP MLA Rakhi Birla and tearing them. AAP’s Ankit Lal tweeted a video purportedly showing Gupta tearing some document while others raised slogans in the background.

LoP Gupta, on the other hand, claimed he was manhandled by the AAP MLAs.

AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha said rebel MLA Devendra Sehrawat, who has now joined BJP, abused AAP’s women legislators. Rakhi Birla also claimed that Sehrawat abused AAP’s women legislators during the DERC meeting.

Jha shared a video on Twitter alleging misconduct by Gupta and claimed Delhi Police was a ‘mute spectator’. In the video, MLA Rakhi can be heard saying that BJP MLAs did not allow them to speak and hurled abuses at women MLAs.

Vijendra Gupta will address a press conference on the alleged assault by AAP MLAs on him later in the day.
