    India lose World Cup semi-final: PM Modi lauds ‘fighting spirit’, Rahul says ‘you deserve our love’

    India lost the semi-final to New Zealand by 18 runs. 

    New Delhi: Even as India’s World Cup hopes were dashed on July 10, Indian leaders and cricketers, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, tweeted out in support of Men in Blue, appreciating their efforts.

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed the defeat “a disappointing result”, but lauded the team’s “fighting spirit till the very end.”

    Congress leader Rahul Gandhi too took to Twitter to say, “Though they’re a billion broken hearts tonight, Team India, you put up a great fight and are deserving of our love & respect.”

    Showing support for the Men in Blue, Congress tweeted: “We stand with you in victory & defeat.”

    Former Indian cricket player Virendra Sehwag congratulated New Zealand for entering the finale and showered praises on MS Dhoni and Jadeja.

    VVS Laxman tweeted that “Ravindra Jadeja along with Dhoni fought brilliantly and got India so close.”

    Former Madhya Pradedsh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan thanked Team India for giving us “best moments”, “joy and happiness” and made a special mention of Ravindra Jadeja and Dhoni for their commendable knock.

    Harsha Bhogle, on the other hand, thanked fans for their endless love and support and tweeted: “Well done India fans. You lit up this World Cup. It would have been a lesser event without you.”

    India’s Warriors for today, MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja, got the lion’s share of accolades.

    Another fan tweeted: “Amazing game shown by Jadeja & Dhoni, Hard luck today.”

    India lost the semi-final to New Zealand by 18 runs.
