New Delhi: After being ruled out of the World Cup, Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan has posted an emotional video and stated his injury as “unfortunate” saying that the “show must go on.”

Dhawan has been replaced by wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant, after BCCI sent an official request to the ICC, which was later accepted by the apex body.

In the video, Dhawan elaborated about his injury and urged fans to keep supporting team India so that it wins the World Cup for the third time.

“I feel emotional to announce that I will no longer be a part of #CWC19. Unfortunately, the thumb won’t recover on time. But the show must go on. I’m grateful for all the love & support from my teammates, cricket lovers & our entire nation. Jai Hind!,” said Dhawan in the video.

Further, announcing that the opener would now return to India, Dhawan said, “I really wanted to play the World Cup and represent my country. Now it’s time for me to go back, recover well and be ready for the next action.”

Dhawan was kept under observation by the team management after his injury and Rishabh was flown in as a replacement. But the left-handed opener had suffered a hairline fracture and was ruled out from the tournament.

In the video, Dhawan also wished team India and urged fans to keep supporting the team as they have the potential to win the tournament.

“I’m sure the boys are doing a great job at the moment and they are going to win the World Cup. Keep praying for us and keep supporting us, you support, and prayers are very important and very dear to us. Thank you again for all your support and love,” he said.

India will next face Afghanistan on June 22 after drubbing South Africa, Australia and arch-rivals Pakistan in the World Cup.
